Teachers in Alberta are being asked to teach the truths of Canada’s past through Indigenous perspectives (Alberta Education, TQS5, 2019; Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, 2015). The TRC reminds us of the importance of education in bringing to light colonial injustices and stories that have not been told.

As Métis educators, it is our goal to support teachers in their integration of Métis ways of knowing, being, and doing in their classrooms. This site offers educators authentic Métis teaching resources created, produced, and shared by Métis citizens from across Alberta. These include the original set of stories that originated from the Fishing Lake Métis Settlement in northeastern Alberta and, as of 2026, we now offer stories from southern Alberta Métis. 

 

These digital stories have resulted from multiple storytelling workshops held in Sputinow (Fishing Lake Métis Settlement) during 2010-2011 and, more recently, from storywork undertaken in southern Alberta in 2025-2026. These stories represent the voices and perspectives of Métis people living in Alberta. These stories are created by those who can rightly claim lived experiences as Métis people in Alberta and represent a move towards reclamation and revitalization of Métis ways of knowing, being, and doing. Each story is as diverse as the community members themselves.
