Story 14
Calgary Métis Roots, 1885

Calgary Métis Roots, 1885 follows Doreen and Karla Bergum as they uncover their family’s longstanding connections to Calgary and southern Alberta. Family stories, photographs, and historical records reveal Métis ancestors who owned land, travelled prairie routes, worked across languages and communities, and built relationships with Blackfoot people. The story asks what familiar places can reveal when Métis histories are brought back into view.
